Nirmala Panta Case - Still Mystery

Nirmala Panta Case - Still Mystery

The murder case after the rape of Nirmala Pant became not only the most talked about criminal case in Nepal but also a question mark in the capacity and trust of the entire police organizations.

It has been three years since the incident was investigated. More than half a dozen police officers were dragged into controversy, many were suspended, hundreds of files were prepared, but still Nirmala could not get justice, nor did the millions of people who stood up to give justice to Nirmala get satisfactory answers.

After this incident, which has united the entire country in the incidents of violence against women, the police has to be defensive in every incident of violence against women. No one can say how this incident, which managed to create a 'suspicion facility' on the police in every case, is now being investigated. Many incidents of spontaneous agitation were carried out from the grassroots level to increase the pressure on the government and the police over this incident which was considered as a part of the failure of the then KP Sharma Oli government. But the situation is the same.

Until this incident is resolved, the distrust of the Nepali people towards the Nepal Police will not go away. The police start the investigation from a new vein every time. But that's where his research ends, from where his research began. Nepal Police, which solved the Raniwari massacre in Kathmandu 12 years later, has not closed the investigation file in the Nirmala Pant case. But every time a file is added, the slogan written on the poster with Nirmala's innocent face is likely to be repeated all over the country - the government was found but justice was not found.     The main weakness of the police is to take the incident lightly  July 10, 2075 Nirmala Pant, 13, of Ultakham in Mahendranagar district of Kanchanpur district has been killed after being raped. Her body was found half-naked in Ukhubari the day after the murder.

According to the post-mortem report, the police made it public that she was strangled to death after being raped. The agitation started from Kanchanpur with the same fact made public by the police. This movement eventually spread across the country.  On the 26th day of the incident, the police had made public Dilip Singh Bista of Bhim Dutta-19 Bagphanta as the accused. After Bista was made public, the agitation intensified in Mahendranagar saying that the police had hidden the real culprit and trapped a mentally retarded youth. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on August 25, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

However, Nirmala's parents, who have filed a complaint to investigate the incident, have accused the police of trying to turn the incident around.  Police are still searching for concrete evidence  Three years after the incident, police are still searching for concrete evidence. Five SPs returned to Kanchanpur only after Nirmala's murder. More than half a dozen investigation teams reached Kanchanpur from the center alone. Although one DIG asked for more time to complete the investigation, he remained in the Far West Command. But only the file was added, no success was achieved.  Civil society is still active  The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and a team of state police are also investigating the Nirmala case.

Meanwhile, civil society and women's rights activists have not stopped increasing the pressure.  Now Congress is challenged, 'Government found, justice not found'  In the Nirmala case, most of the voices were heard from the streets to the parliament. Leaders of the Nepali Congress from district to center had escalated the issue accusing the then government of trying to protect criminals. The Congress had made this issue a hot topic to bring the Oli government to Chepuwa. But now a government has been formed under the leadership of Ghumiphiri Congress.

Now this issue is sure to be a challenge for the Nepali Congress. Aiming at the Oli government, civil society spontaneously pasted posters depicting Nirmala's innocent face in protest - the government was found and justice was not found. The same slogan is likely to stick again.

The investigation was affected after the police panicked  One after another investigation teams were formed in the Nirmala case after the nationwide agitation and increasing pressure on the police. On top of that, in the name of political accountability, from the minister to the prime minister, speaking indiscriminately on the issue had created unnecessary pressure on the investigation committee. Due to which, experts have been saying that the police failed step by step while trying to give quick results.
