Delta variant spread to 132 countries of the world: WHO



The number of people infected with coronavirus worldwide has been increasing weekly.

In the seven days from July 17 to 25, it increased by 8 percent compared to the previous week, officials said. That week, 3.8 million people were infected with the coronavirus.

The World Health Organization, the United Nations' health agency, says the number of infected people has risen by up to 30 percent in some areas.

In the last week, 540,000 people have been infected worldwide daily. Before that, an average of 490,000 people were infected daily, according to the WHO.


The death toll also rose slightly compared to the previous week, according to WHO officials. The WHO also said that delta variants of the coronavirus have spread to 132 countries around the world. Similarly, the Alpha variant has reached 182 countries, the Beta variant 131 countries and the Gamma variant 81 countries, according to the WHO.

The United States has the highest number of infected people in the world, followed by India, Brazil, Russia, France and the United Kingdom.
